Peter Pilz, a 31-year-veteran MP with the Austrian green party and the former party leader is leaving the party and starting a new political movement because the party's’ immigration policy and pandering to Islam. The 63-year-old has been dubbed the Bernie Sanders of Austria.
Pilz plans to participate in the coming elections October 15th with his own list , Liste Peter Pilz. He is anticipated to get a handful of MPs to follow him and give the greens more grievances. The Austrian Green Party is down 4 percent since the last elections. Pilzs’ message is strongly leftist and environmentalist and he is targeting the green party voters who are not happy with how the party is handling the migrant crisis and tries to activate the non-voters.
The new political movement is not going to be formal party but more of a list of “responsible people”. Possible names to join his movement are Wolfgang Zinggl, Gabriela Moser, Karl Öllinger, Bruno Rossmann, Alfred Noll and Efgani Dönmez – the latter a Turkish born former green party politician famous for opposing Turkish nationalism growing in the local immigrant community.
The Austrian Green Party is not a major player in the parliament currently polling at 8 percent but only last year the Green Party candidate Alexander VanDer Bellen was elected the president of Austria.
