DISCLOSER:  I will be talking about cannabis and my personal expierence with it. As such, this blog is going to be a little bit more on the personal side than on the teaching useful life tips side. This is more of a pre-cursor/set-up for part 2.

So to disclose some important information before we get into the meat of this post. I do not and am not currently working towards having a Medical Marijuana (MMJ) Card for the state of Washington or any other state, I also consume for recreational reasons too. However I do use it for medicinal reasons including,

  • High Functioning Anxiety (Diagnosed)
  • Social Anxiety (Diagnosed)
  • Tendentious, Both Arms (Diagnosed)
  • Depression (Assumed but never officially diagnosed)
  • Severe Headaches (Diagnosed)
  • Severe Back Pain (Diagnosed)

Now that you have a clue as to why I use it but don't have a card let me explain myself. I used Xanax (50mg+) and a mixture of high doses of Tylenol (3000mg+) and Ibuprofen (3200mg+) I took the pain meds daily but the Xanax only while having or coming close to having a panic attack. I was recommend to stop the pain meds in order to not further damage my liver and stomach, which took a slight beating from the obnoxious amount of drugs I was pouring into them.

Now growing up with my family, us Christian Conservative types I was always against "drugs" meaning anything deemed illegal or that has had propaganda thrown against it.  Add in that my eldest brother has been in and out of my life because of drugs and it really does harm the impression I had of giving it a shot. However part of my wife's family and herself are a whole different story. To put it nicely they are a bunch of modern hippies, and they LOVE the green stuff.

So too no surprise my wife was pushing me towards it since we were about seventeen. I at the time thought some silly things, like how marijuana was a "devil plant" or that "it was a man-made fusion of tobacco and a psychoactive plant" and other such non-sense. So of course I saw no medical pro's for cannabis even though my biggest problem - the neuroprotective part of cannabis - was literally saving my mother-in-law’s life. She used it alongside other medication for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and it was believed by her doctors to be why it had progressed as slowly as it did before they found it.

BUT! That all changed when the video of cannabis killing cancer cells was released. At first I thought it was fake, plain and simple. But then, after all the shots were fired and the smoke cleared, it was legit. Which with my mom at that point have been through 3 cancers and 4 surgeries (now 5 cancers and 6 surgeries + biopsies) I started researching in to it. Low and behold, a lot of the arguments I've heard and dismissed earlier in my life turned out to have at least some truth behind it. I was absolutely shocked. This plant, this miracle plant, had been right there the entire time. Wrongfully outlawed, and to blame when needing an easy cop-out of any situation for celebrities and the rich.

After learning all of this, I started trying with the assistance of my five other siblings to get my mom to use it. She never really got into using it (however she does use a CBD tincture now), but me, I started to consider it heavily. Now by the title alone and my obvious bias throughout this article you already know my decision, but let’s look at what lead me to consider it.

So at this point I'm 20 almost 21, my wife had been clean for years because she quit for me. I had quit Xanax almost two years ago because I thought I had "beat" my anxiety and I was developing major sleep issues do to massive stress. I had already looked into Melatonin and knew all the downsides to using it as my wife developed a dependency at the age of 14 that we worked through to stomp out. All signs pointed towards at least giving it a shot, so I did my research - about 2 weeks of non-stop research, about 8-10 hours of my day went into what exactly I was going to be putting into my body - then I took the plunge right after my 21st birthday. Bought the glass about a week before and mentally prepared for the feeling, and boy was I both completely prepared and utterly unprepared for what happened to me.

I think I will leave it there and post the rest in part 2 and possibly a part 3. Now I didn't plan on writing this for this week's blog, but I feel like it isn't my place to cover what I wanted to cover. Maybe at another time but not this week. I would also like to personally thank anyone who reads this and will continue to read my blog(s).
