An incredible 4-year-old child stunned the world when she plainly spoke seven languages on national television.
The clip later made its way online where it has been blowing peoples' minds for a week, totalling over a million views on YouTube, alone.
Her name is Bella Devyatkina and she can speak Russian, English, German, Spanish, French, Chinese and Arabic.
Some people criticized her parents for loading her up with such a learning curriculum (they have her studying all of these languages), but neuropsychologist Anna Semenovich clarified that she was doing it of her own volition. “If the girl is learning languages through curiosity, if her parents managed to build a schedule that works as a game – it will only benefit her. She’s not studying, she’s playing!” Semenovich said.
She also explained that it is quite common Russian tradition to teach the youth a multitude of languages. “In pre-revolutionary Russia, if a child from a noble family couldn’t speak three-four languages by the age of five or six, it was a shame to take him out. Then in school Latin and ancient Greek were added to those. So five-six languages were a standard package for an educated youth back in 19th-century Russia,” she said.
We are very excited for the future of young Devyatkina. She is an inspiration to children and diplomats everywhere.
