A Shawano, Wisconsin city law will see parents of bullies fined for not doing anything to stop them.

The law was passed in April of 2016 and gives parents 90 days to correct their child's actions if they are caught bullying.  If they do not do anything to help the child in that time frame, they'll see a potential fine of $366 (for first time offenders).  If it happens again within a year, they could see another fine, this time $681.

Chief Mark Kohl, of the Shawano Police Department, ensured parents that this is not aimed at kids playing and calling each other names.

"This isn't generated towards the kids being kids, some playground banter. This is the person that is meticulously using social media or saying things that are vulgar in an attempt to hurt, discredit, and really demean a person."

It's unknown if the new ordinance will prove effective.  Police have yet to act on the law.
