"This is the greatest thing that ever happened," says Flea as he lays next to Koko, strumming his guitar.

Flea is the bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and an avid supporter of the Gorilla Foundation, an organization aimed at preserving and protecting gorilla habitat around the world.

Koko may be the figure head of the organization.  She's a 45 year-old gorilla, raised at a sanctuary (not a zoo and not open to the public).  At the age of 6 months, she was introduced to the english language and at the age of 1 year she began learning sign language.

She's since become an amazing testament to what a gorilla can do to learn.  She currently lives at The Gorilla Foundation in Woodside, California, which is in the Santa Cruz Mountains about 35 miles south of San Francisco.

Well, she got together with Flea for an epic (but relatively short) publicity stunt (though Flea seems to just be doing it for fun).  "This is a day that I will never forget," he says as Koko plucks a string.

Beautiful.  With some training, Koko may become a solid musician.
