A planned power plant in Wales is expected to produce enought electricity to power 155,000 homes for 120 years with next to zero carbon footprint.  This is enough to off-set the need for 250 million barrels of oil every year.

The giant plant will be attached an artificially constructed lagoon with walls 6 miles long.  During high tide, water from the ocean will rush into the lagoon and turn turbines; when the tide drops, the water in the lagoon will rush back out into the ocean and turn the turbines again.

Why have we not been building plants like this for decades?  It's about time.

In this power plant, there are 26 turbines through which the water will jet.  Every day, enough water to fill 100,000 Olympic sized swimming pools will flow through them.

It is also noted that he lagoon can also be used as an aquaculture farm and seaside sculpture garden, as well as a giant arena for sailing and cycling sports.

The plant was approved in June of 2015 and will begin construction in 2017.  The cost comes in around $1.5 billion and is being subsidized by the government.
