Kyocera Corporation has been at it for years.  Since the 1970's, they have been building solar panels and power plants for "street lamps, traffic signs and telecommunication stations in mountainous areas.”  Their scope was limited because the technology was not good enough to power more, but since the dawn of the solar age their panel quality and usefulness have skyrocketed.

Now, teaming up with Century Tokyo Leasing Corporation, they have partnered to create Kyocera TCL Solar and Japan's largest floating solar station.

Producing 13.4 megawatts and powering 4,700 homes, this gigantic station will include 50,000 individual solar panel modules and will cover over 180,000 square meters.  It will replace the need for 7,800 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

It's not the only floating solar station Kyocera is working on.  Here is some overhead footage of another, completed, floating power plant in Hyogo Prefecture
