A discovery from a thousand year old Anglo-Saxon text is dealing a blow to the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, otherwise known as MRSA.  MRSA is an antibiotic resistant strain of bacteria that was (before this discovery) predicted to kill 300 million people over the next 35 years.  Scientists discovered a recipe for an eye salve in a 9th century medical book called "Bald's Leechbook" that kills 90% of the MRSA it comes into contact with.

It was a shocking discovery and has been tested multiple times, with the same results.

Here's the recipe for Bald's eye salve

- Equal amounts of garlic and another allium (onion or leek), finely chopped and crushed in a mortar for two minutes.

- Add 25ml (0.87 fl oz) of English wine - in this case, taken from a historic vineyard near Glastonbury.

- Dissolve bovine salts in distilled water, add and then keep chilled for nine days at 4 degrees Celsius before straining through a cloth to remove particulates.

Finding a cure for antibiotic resistant bacteria is a huge leap forward medically, but even more awesome is finding natural food that works better than pharmaceutical concoctions.
