The Wellspring of Magick

The schools of the occult have always had as one of the fundamental truths that the universe is a dynamism, alive, and that everything is connected. From the smallest subatomic particles to the vast galaxies themselves, intelligence that we can only dimly comprehend is present and is in all things. Magickal doctrine refers to this as The Universal Flame of Life.

Unbound by the near-infinite size of the universe, time stretches into spans that can only be measured in billions of light-years and seen with eyes that are technological extensions of the mind of humanity. Conceptually, astronomers and mathematicians measure and explore the universe as a vast system of energy, matter and the forces that control both. Humanity is still learning and has only recently (in terms of human lifetimes) begun to theorize that there are mysterious additions to the matter and energies we have understood and accepted to present day. Theoreticians give these things names like “dark energy”, but still don’t understand what they are and how they interact with the better known forces and matter of the universe.

Recently theories have been put forth that there are ‘filaments’ that connect galaxies across the vast reaches of the universe, which cannot be accounted for by the four fundamental forces we already know, one of which is gravity. If proven, then (literally) everything in the universe is connected!

Occult theory has held that all things in the universe are connected and that the universe is a great organism, controlled by a dynamism of the psychical order. Mind gleams through its every atom. There is mind manifested in everything, therefore. Such a near-infinite intelligence would ever seek to understand itself and split itself into innumerable parts, imbuing these “sparks of the infinite” into intelligent beings. Humans have another word for this spark: Soul.

Throughout the history of humanity, the truth of this has been revealed to many. Some have been able to transmute some of the revelation into understandable form based on the level of learning at the time. We have had such terms as the “Universal Ether” in the centuries of our ancestors, for instance.

Others that have been vehicles for these revelations over the ages have been driven mad or thought to be possessed by demons, or worse. In the present day, some have the ability to comprehend and study the intricacies of disciplines such as particle physics and quantum mechanics. Others are able to connect to the universal intelligence at the source of the human soul. They channel that universality as a source of energy for the human will.

This is the origin of Magick and use of the same through True Will. As written in the Law of Thelma, “Do what thou Wilt is the whole of the Law.”
