What we choose to do in life echoes in eternity. At least somehow. This simple fact is perhaps the main cause that so many of us are hesitant to try something new. Because we know that it eventually will be no way back, once we reach some vaguely defined point of no return. For others this natural uncertainty might just be what fuels their lust for life.
I guess we are all a bit different in this regard. Some are more adventurous than others, while some are more careful and prefer to hedge one's bets. Either way, as humans we must open new doorways in our lives sooner or later. We can never really embrace the status quo. At some point we will have to move onward in life. In some way or the other. It's an unavoidable part of the human condition.
Needless to say, assuming you'll have several different options on how to act, choosing the correct option wich gives the best long term benefits, may be difficult. Nobody can really predict the future. But we can to a certain extent assert that we can predict at least some possible outcomes.
I.e. we can predict that walking out in the rain is guaranteed to make us wet. Or if we drink alcohol we will get drunk. Here the ability to predict possible outcomes reaches a certain limit for most people. But some people are able to predict far more. They are not psychics with extrasensory perceptions, but merely people that by experience, or by deduction or logic, sometimes with a stunning certainity can predict what is most likely to happen. Most famous chess-players have this ability. At least when it comes to the chessboard. Others can use this ability to calculate in everyday life. A trait that allows them to navigate more safely trough life. They just have this gut feeling that never seems to fail.
I believe this trait can be learned and practiced. At least for most people. It's all about learning from past mistakes and successes, while using pattern recognition. If so and so seems to be the factors, then the outcome is likely to be this and that. Sadly, most people today are not very good at recognizing patterns. At least not as good as they should or could be. This natural trait can often times be dulled down by our lifestyle, or our general state of mind.
My opinion is that people should become more aware of patterns in everyday life. and at the same time learn to understand what these patterns mean. If they don't succeed in something after trying several times in the same way, a pattern emerges. A pattern that indicates that they perhaps should try to achieve their goals in a different manner. After all, it is said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Which in most cases could be true. But also could just mean that people should get better at recognising patterns.
People that are lacking confidence in everyday life, who seems to be faltering and disinclined, may possibly benefit greatly from practicing pattern recognition. So that they can become better at opening the right doorways in their everyday lives.
A good way to practice pattern recognition, is to play games like chess. Games where you need to use your logic and calculate your moves. I believe these activities might activate parts of our awareness that previously may not have been so active. Which in the long term can help us opening the doorways in our lives with far greater confidence and trust in our own judgement.
