Orangutans are up there with the world’s smartest animals and should never be kept as pets, let alone treated in the appalling way Bujing has been treated.
Bujing who was originally taken from his deceased mother as a baby, was sold at a pet shop for just $75 dollars. He spent most of his days chained outside of a house in the Indonesian part of Borneo. As a result of his poor conditions Bujing was left extremely malnourished and lost his hair as a result of the trauma.
Luckily The International Animal Rescue (IAC) came to his aid, with the help of The Orangutan Project (TOP) and were able evacuate him to safety.
A member of the IAC team explained “The rescue team was very alarmed at the condition of the orangutan,” and continued “Bujing was chained to the side of the house. He looked very thin and had no hair due to malnutrition, which had also impaired his growth.
Since being rescued Bujing’s hair has now grown back and he is no longer malnourished. In an update on his condition the IAC have said “He has made amazing progress since his rescue and although he still looks thinner than most of the other rescued orangutans of his age, it is clear he is enjoying the abundance of amazing fruits available at our rescue and rehabilitation centre!”
