Winter it Seems

Hum, no matter which window I look out, it is still winter.

Snow is not something we get too often on the southwest coast of Canada but it does happen. The photograph below tells of another time.

The Sidney, British Columbia Museum reports that  - during the first week of February 1916 the Saanich Peninsula saw one of its worst snowfalls in recorded history. Over 45 inches of snow fell over a seven-day period. Everything came to a standstill, the Victoria & Sidney railway stopped, and the army even deployed 150 soldiers to help dig out Victoria. This photo shows Beacon Avenue and the post office covered in massive snowdrifts during the 'Big Snow' of 1916. Just goes to show, big snow falls can happen here too!

Apparently, there is another 4 inches on the way to add to the 6-8 inches we have now. It is -6 this morning and suppose to stay cool for the week.

Pretty though!
