What inspired you to write A Dragon's Voice, and how does Sebastian’s journey reflect your own experiences with resilience and healing?
The inspiration for A Dragon's Voice came from me having learning disabilities and reading comprehension with problems reading and learning the lessons of what I was trying to read. So, I wanted to emphasize the lessons for each topic, such as friendship, and listening to their intuition, and to not give into peer pressure.
Can you share how your personal challenges with PTSD, chronic illness, and trauma have influenced the messages you want to convey to readers, especially children?
I unfortunately have survived multiple types of abuse and trauma which is why I wanted to educate others about what abuse looks like and to teach parents to have discussions about grooming behavior, as well as preventing them from getting hurt or kidnapped.
I wanted to teach kids to listen to their intuition about when they are taking something that isn't theirs and that little feeling they get that something feels or sounds wrong to follow their gut and do what is right.
If a child has a learning disability, and needs help with comprehension, my book is written so they can use their imagination 1st then check with the picture to see if they were on point.
Also, the lessons are in bold so they can understand the lessons as they go.
What advice would you give to other veterans or individuals facing adversity who want to express their stories creatively?
Advice for vets- I would advise veterans to journal and write about their stories and experiences starting from childhood to now or now to childhood.
Or if they had little trauma as a child, write when the first hard experiences were and explain how they impacted your life. Write about what you're doing about it now, and what has made you grow the most.
