The war on social media

STEFAN METZELER·THURSDAY, APRIL 2, 2020

For years, we have been “warned” that social media are harmful, dangerous and that they destroy our lives. While they do raise a lot of issues, the problem is a totally different one from what they claim. The latest article that pushed me to write about this issue was a lecture by George Sors, one of the most evil people in modern history, trying to lecture us on the evil of Facebook and Google and wanting us to accept EU censorship of social media:

* George Soros: Facebook and Google a menace to society

and

* Only the EU can break Facebook and Google's dominance

Of course there are major issues with Facebook & co, mostly consisting in their arbitrary power to censor speech, but that’s not what he means. I’ll focus on the second article here: Only the EU can break Facebook and Google's dominance.

“This is particularly nefarious because social media companies influence how people think and behave without them even being aware of it. This has far-reaching adverse consequences on the functioning of democracy, particularly on the integrity of elections.”
“Mining and oil companies exploit the physical environment; social media companies exploit the social environment,” said the Hungarian-American businessman, according to a transcript of his speech.“Facebook and Google have become “obstacles to innovation” and are a “menace” to society whose “days are numbered”, said billionaire investor and philanthropist George Soros at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday.

How about the EU, which totally destroys the separation of powers by giving the Council of Ministers and the Commission ultimate power, while the EU parliament and the national parliaments are degraded to mere actors? You'll never hear him complain about that, as he is largely in control of the EU. He has those who wield power in his pocket, starting with Merkel. They are his Oceania. The next sentence is simply unbelievable:

"In the United States, President Donald Trump would like to establish his own mafia-style state but cannot, because the constitution, other institutions, and a vibrant civil society won’t allow it."

I guess the "vibrant civil society" are his violent Antifa and BLM Nazi-like thugs? We know that he is financing them:

* Major donors consider funding Black Lives Matter

along with so much more...

* Trump under attack by 187 organizations directly funded by George Soros

Trump has already started destroying deep government power and corruption like no other president before him - and he cannot be bought! That is why Soros hates him so much. Therefore, Soros’ real problem are social media, because they are user-controlled and despite all his attempts at controlling them, we still can communicate real information and counter his propaganda.I previously pointed out that there is now an active attempt to drive people away from social media, telling them that they are being "manipulated":

* x-Facebook Executive Chamath Palihapitiya: Social Media Is 'Ripping Apart' Society | CNBC

* And here then there’s this guy, Dr.Cal Newport, telling us to “Quit social media” in a TEDx speech

They all claim, like Soros, that: "Social media companies deceive their users by manipulating their attention, directing it towards their own commercial purposes".

Yeah, that's funny, that's exactly not what is happening, as we are creating our own content and choosing what we pay attention to!

Soros continues: "This is not a matter of mere distraction or addiction; social media companies are actually inducing people to surrender their autonomy"And how does that manifest? Oh but of course: by not voting as directed by the media. Hmmm ...

Soros: "People without the freedom of mind can be easily manipulated”. Poor George, I assure you that I retain my full freedom of mind, which is why I can see right through you!Soros: “This danger does not loom only in the future; it played an important role in the 2016 US presidential election"

Logic thinking is apparently not his strong point - although it is more likely that he tries to be intentionally misleading: if people were easily manipulated, Brexit would have been rejected and Hillary would have been elected by 95% of the voters, given the massive imbalance in media reporting! He just totally destroyed his own argument.

People who were well informed about Brexit, Trump and Hillary made good and courageous decisions, even at the risk of social ostracism. They just did not vote the way Soros wanted. The bosses of Facebook, Google and Twitter hated how their users ended up voting, proving that these platforms are not able to manipulate their users, even when they try very hard, with absolutely scandalous tricks such as what Project Veritas revealed about Twitter:

* HIDDEN CAMERA: Twitter Engineers To "Ban a Way of Talking" Through "Shadow Banning"

But, but ... Russian hackers!

Right: a bunch of jokers with a budget that was maybe 0.2% of what Hillary had to spend managed to manipulate tens of millions of voters against their will, but Hillary’s much better funded American trolls had no effect whatsoever:

* Mueller’s Investigation A Farce: Files Joke Indictment Against Russian Trolls

How exactly does that work?Let's sum it up: the platforms wanted their users to vote for Hillary. They even illegally fired employees who disagree with their political agenda:

* James Damore has an 'above decent' chance of winning his legal case against Google

The mainstream media wanted Hillary to be elected. But they all fail. Because the social media users communicated with each other and had access to real information that they selected based on their demonstrated truth value and their personal preferences. And that's bad?

Soros, the hypocrite, continues: "It takes significant effort to assert and defend what John Stuart Mill called the freedom of mind".Which is why I’m spending all this time deconstructing your lies, George!

We don’t believe you when you try to use our own arguments against us: "an alliance between authoritarian states and large, data-rich IT monopolies, bringing together nascent systems of corporate surveillance with already-developed systems of state-sponsored surveillance. This may well result in a web of totalitarian control the likes of which not even George Orwell could have imagined."

>>> Yes, that's exactly what we do not want <<<

But George Soros just launches into a diatribe about the definition of "monopoly" in the EU and the US. The goal is clear: he wants the EU to take over, declare Facebook and Google to be monopolies and thus control, i.e. censor, them, so they can create exactly the kind of oppressive state that he just warned about!

Soros wants people to:

* use social media only for irrelevant private stuff

* accept government censorship

* return to mainstream media for “information”, so he can control it

Now it is up to you: will you submit and return to a world without social media or give in to your addiction and continue communicating with intelligent, well informed friends from all over the world?
