Pedophilia and German politicians

I just came across this article from 2014 in my archive and realized that I never followed up to see how it turned out:

Sebastian Edathy is a member of the German Socialist Party and a parliamentarian.

By profession Sociologist (seriously, I kid you not!).

He was the chairman of the Bundestag Committee on Interior Affairs, a powerful position.

He also became the chairman of a key committee which was investigating failures of police and intelligence units in the serial murders of nine immigrants by the group NSU.

Except that the Wikipedia article is, as usual, a cover-up and packed with lies.

They refer to NSU as "far-right German terrorist group National Socialist Underground (NSU)".

Far right ... SOCIALIST Underground - and absolutely no one thought that this was bizarre? They keep calling National SOCIALISTS "far right", although their name, their ideology, their favorite authors and their goals are all from the far left. Racism and antisemitism do not make them "far right", they make them Marxists, as racism, antisemitism and German nationalism were all part of Marx' ideology.

Edathy was born in Hanover, Lower Saxony, the son of an immigrant from Kerala, India, and a German mother. Why is this relevant? Because he was also chairman of the German–Indian group of members of the Bundestag. How many German-Indians are members of the German parliament? 🤨

His wealth is estimated to be 2 million Euros and he owns a house. Apparently, his only source of income was his political career. So the guy managed to accumulate 2 million Euros on the salary of a parlamentarian 🤔

He is listed as "straight" and "single", i.e. never married. No known ex girlfriend or wife at the age of 51. Germans used to call that "confirmed bachelor". It appears that he is not into women. Or men. He's into children. Young boys, actually.

As it turned out, Edathy had been caught in a Canadian investigation into child pornography. The German federal police, the BKA, didn't do anything after being notified in october 2011 until 2014 in an obvious attempt to cover up the affair.

He was also found to have downloaded serious child porn from Russian servers, but this did not show up during an investigation, as he had been warned about an investigation months in advance, another scandal.

As the police did not find illegal child porn on his computer - after he had had several months to ged rid of all the evidence - he only got a fine of 5'000 Euros and had to resign from his roles in parliament.

This again raises the question: why are there so many pedophiles in positions of power?
