Female voices are oppressing women

In  the series "this is too ridiculous to be true", a UN report from 2019 about the "empowerment of women" complained that voice assistance with female voices were "oppressing women":

I'd blush if I could: closing gender divides in digital skills through education

The NYT says that the UN "finds" that female voices "reinforce Gender Bias". They don't say "suggests", they say "finds" as if it was already an established fact.

Siri and Alexa Reinforce Gender Bias, U.N. Finds

The Guardian claimed that it "entenched gender bias".

Digital assistants like Siri and Alexa entrench gender biases, says UN

Everyone assumes that gender bias is a fact that cannot be questioned. Could it just be that there are real gender differences that have nothing to do with any "bias"?

So what is the alleged problem?

"Female-voiced tech often gives submissive responses to queries, Unesco report finds"

Submissive responses? Seriously?

“Because the speech of most voice assistants is female, it sends a signal that women are obliging, docile and eager-to-please helpers, available at the touch of a button or with a blunt voice command like ‘hey’ or ‘OK’,” the report said."

They do realize that anyone is free to choose a male voice, right?

"The paper said such firms were “staffed by overwhelmingly male engineering teams”"

Yes, and why is that? Because men are more into engineering work and software development. And that difference becomes more pronounced when society is more "egalitarian" which was demonstrated by Norway, where women were encouraged for decades to go into STEM fields, but instead overwhelmingly chose typical "female" occupations.

Looks like there are real differences between the genders.

Which is why ALL the engineering teams from different companies chose female voices as default for their digital assistants:

Companies like Amazon may give devices like Alexa female voices to make them seem 'caring'

Female voices are reassuring, comforting and pleasant and preferred by both, men and women.

How in the world is it "harming women" that their voices are preferred to male voices?

How could anyone come up with something as insane?
