Only 10 Guns?

What if you were limited to owning just 10 guns?   It is hard to imagine for a gun collector and enthusiast I know, and there are going to be some people who see this and think - who needs 10 guns?  Well I do.   I couldn't stop at 10.  No way.   For the fun of it though I thought about what 10 guns I'd have to have if I were limited to just 10:

A Target Model 10/22
As posted here @Minds the first in my selection would be a target model 10/22.  The trusted 10/22 is the most prolific firearm in American civilian trade.   According to wiki over 5 million have been made though I've hard much higher numbers.  The 22 LR is great for small game, the lack of recoil excellent for non gun users to apply in limited defense, and a heavy target model makes hitting little targets or (aim small miss small) much easier.    This can be scored with a scope and bipod for $500 with some going way higher.

Mossberg 930 SPX 8 Shot
No good collection of firearms is possible without a shotgun.  I've owned the Remington 1100 and 870.  I've had an enjoyed the Browning A5.   Those are great shotguns for fowl, but for defense I'm opting for this Mossberg 8 shot semi automatic.   Make no mistake this one isn't for fowl, clay but defense.  A 12 gauge is probably the most ideal home defense weapon.   I've heard others say what I believe; the hand gun in the night stand is just there so I can get to my shotgun.

Next up 4 Rifles and 4 Hand Guns

Winchester Lever Action
A modern 24 inch barrel, 357 magnum that also shoots 38 special, and in the former carries 13 rounds is my first non rim fire rifle choice.   This caliber will match one of my hand gun selections in this group of ten.   In a nut shell if you ended up in the woods, can only carry a hand gun and rifle it would be this rifle and the matching hand gun in caliber.   I have not seen a good reliable 357 rifle in semi automatic that would outdo the lever action.  There are other company choices like Marlin, Rossi and Henry but I'll stick with Winchester because they are currently making some great firearms - in Japan of all places.

Colt AR 901 Variable or Modular Rifle
Yes I'm cheating on my 10 gun limit here.   Cheating thanks to the technological advancement of the gun industry and the idiotic rules of government regulation in calling the "lower" of the so called Assault Rifle the firearm.  Fortunately ignoring that the top half (upper) of the rifle comes in variations and I'd choose at least 3 variations:  The first would be a 16 inch or maybe even shorter 223/5.56 variable for urban settings.   The second a 21-24 inch 223/5.56 variable for small game and longer distances.  The third, of course, the 7.62x51 / .308 variable for more power.   In this case I get 3 rifles for the post of one in my group of ten.   Call me a cheater - in self defense no rules apply  as far as I'm concerned.

Springfield M1A Loaded in 6.5 Creedmore
The choice of this rifle is probably obvious to many enthusiast meaning the M1A.  Surviving 78 years of of production, used in WWII by the United States, and still in service after all these years it is the go to defense weapon.  Why the 6.5 vs the .308 or 7.62.51?   Well I'm not getting any younger.   That 7.62 kicks butt or more importantly my shoulder.  The 6.5 kicks less, flies flatter, and since I can hit the target better its my preference over the bigger and heavier round.   Besides rifle #4 coming up will take care of the heavy.

Remington 700 in 300 Winchester Magnum
There are many variations of this rifle.  This one needs to be set for distance shooting and yes it will kill my shoulder.   While its easy to say this is ideal for big game its hard to imagine wanting to kill an elk or large deer with this when the 6.5 above will do.   This is the "first shot" weapon in self defense?  This is the one shot fired at what most would consider a "safe distance" from the target.  Perhaps its into an engine block to stop someone from driving where they are not supposed too.   Perhaps its at a pirate boat on the one gunner likely to tear up your fiberglass hole.   Who knows.  This is the one to reach out there the distance.   This is capable of a 1000 yards but I'm not.   I've hit targets I wanted to hit at 800 yards - that is my personal limit and as I get older its no doubt shrinking.

Smith and Wesson Model 627
Want or need?  If this list was for want only it would be a pure Model 27 in blue a 5" model that is stunning.   If its for need though I opt for the Model 627 stainless in competition model with 8 round capacity.  This is the 38/357  match to the lever action rifle above.   If I ended up alone in the woods with two guns to carry it would be that rifle and this pistol with plenty of 357 ammo with the ability to carry just one ammo for both.   This gun will out live all of us reading this and probably out live this publication too.

CZ Rami in 9mm
This one will turn a few heads on a list of only ten guns.   Why?   It is not a lot of people's choice but it is mine.  The capacity of 14 rounds and just bigger then a pocket pistol this is a nearly perfect weapon to me.  The reasoned power of a 9mm, applicable to concealed carry, and large capacity in a single magazine make this a home run.  Above I mentioned if I had only 2 guns left it would be those 357s true, but this would be the last of the 10 lost.

CZ Model 75 SP-01 9mm
The primary self defense full size hand gun goes to the CZ 75.  18 round capacity magazine, I prefer metal, and big big brother to the Rami.   There are a lot of other good choices from Sig, Glock and more in this realm but I prefer the CZ.   One thing it has going for it is another cheating the 10 gun limit with a Kadet 22 LR conversion kit.  Such a conversion will enable the gun to take small game, teach a novice how to shoot, and even put it in their hands for defense when nothing else will do.

Springfield 1911 Range Officer Elite 45 ACP
The final gun in the series.   There are so many companies making high quality 1911 Hand Guns it is difficult to choose.  This one, the Springfield, matches my wants with a good price point.  Of course I'd love a Colt, and yes Dan Wesson is awesome and the list goes on.   Not to over think it and go all out with the expensive one's this one will more than do.   No gun collection of firearms with even fewer choices then 10 would be right without a 1911.

Summary
We all have different ideas.  There are many who will discount out of hand some of these choices and that is fine.  What I hope you do if you have read this far is not disagree, but choose your own.  These are my choices and they wouldn't be right for you.  They are correct only for me.

As a shooting and gun enthusiast with a vast collection of firearms it might be interesting to note - I have only 1 of these guns right now in my personal collection.   The other 9 I am in need of though I may have some variation of them I don't have them.  For example I have several 1911's just not that Springfield.   The Colt XSE will certainly suffice though it doesn't have a rail so I want the Springfield.   Which one of the ten do I have?   Well if you can guess I'll send you a token - first to guess right wins.  (that is what you get for reading to the end).  The guess must appear as a comment.
