Victor Mignogna, a well known voice actor, and musician. An extremely nice, and affectionate man. He has had a stellar 20 plus year career in music, animation, and TV best known for Edward Elric in Full Metal alchemist, and Broly the legendary Super Saiyan in dragon ball z. Vic was soon to return to reprise his roll as Broly, in Dragon Ball Super Broly. when accusations of Homophobia, a politically motivated terminology meaning an expressed opposition to Gay rights, arose after he refused to sign a gay porn comic of a character he portrayed in an anime of whom the girl presenting it to him was a fan. His reasons because the content was non-canon and possibly he may have also been reluctant to sign adult material.
This incident was not long before the 16th of January at which time a thread on twitter accusing Vic of Homophobia, antisemitism and rude behavior appeared on twitter, he disavowed the claims with the following in a letter to his fans…..
This is heartbreaking. Over the last few days, a number of comments and allegations have been voiced on social media. I’d like to share my thoughts.
Homophobic? NO! Some of my dearest friends are members of the lgbtq community, including several that I brought into my production family on Star Trek Continues. This is a blatantly false statement. I said many years ago that I didn’t think a particular character I voiced was gay, contrary to what some fans believed, not because it matters to me AT ALL, but because I was told this was the case. I also elected not to autograph Yaoi, not because I am homophobic but because I didn’t wish to sign material that was non canon.
Anti-Semitic?? I couldn’t even grasp where this was coming from until someone pointed me to a moment years ago where I was in a panel, and referred to a bunch of noise coming from another room jokingly as a holocaust As I said said then, it was a metaphor for armageddon, death, and mass destruction, but not THE Holocaust Could I have chosen a different word? Sure, in retrospect I could have. And, of course, I am sorry that it offended anyone.
I sincerely apologize to any convention staff member who ever felt I was anything less than kind and grateful to be included in their event. Unknown to most staffers, contractual arrangements made in advance with cons were occasionally not honored when I arrived and that made me frustrated. That does not excuse making anyone feel badly and I am deeply sorry.
I would also like to sincerely apologize to anyone who ever felt my interaction with them ( a hug or a kiss on the cheek or forehead) was crossing a line. Never in a million years would it be my intent to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Rather, it was meant to show gratitude or support. I come from an affectionately expressive family where such displays are commonplace. But I understand that not everyone feels the same way. Hence, I will not be interacting in the same way with fans in the future. Understand this is the climate we live in and this is how it has to be. To my fans who ask me for hugs, etc, I’m sorry. But please know that I am no less grateful to or supportive of you!
Finally any allegations of sexual harassment, sexual assault, or most disturbingly, pedophilia are COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY FALSE. My heart weeps for anyone who endures a violation of this kind, so to be accused of harming others in this way….I have no words.
Sincerely,
~Vic Mignogna
Accusations did indeed continue to multiply. In an article by Anime News Network or ANN, which has been implicated of biased journalism, claims the following “A Jewish fan of Mignogna's work on Persona 3 left his autograph line feeling judged in 2010. The 19-year-old lined up with a replica of Junpei's hat for Mignogna to sign and also grabbed a copy of his fan music CD. When their turn came, Mignogna allegedly asked them why they chose the fan music CD but not any of his Christian music CDs. The fan apologized and stated they were Jewish. According to them, Mignogna stared at them up and down and responded by saying, "Well, we can change that."
"I couldn't believe that he would say something like that to me," they said. "I wasn't trying to be rude by telling him my religion, I was just trying to answer his question. I ended up just grabbing the CD and the hat without his signature and apologized to him and just bolted out of the signing line."
This accusation can not be corroborated, however, claims which can be exist. That show it is in fact true that Vic did become overly affectionate with fans and made them very uncomfortable. To which he has recanted his behavior however this did not stop accusations from emerging. These accusations are very lacking in substance and evidence, based almost entirely on rumor and hearsay. The accusations could be characterized as “a friend of a friend of a friend of some cousin of mine”. These allegations are most likely false due to lack of credible witnesses and security footage which should be there, but is not. There does not seem to be any evidence. This did not stop Jamie Marchi, a colleague of Vic’s at Funimation, from creating a hashtag on twitter called #kickvic. The first tweet reads “ I don’t know, #kickvic? Or does that conjure up too much of an image of physically kicking him?”.
This particular movement within social media has created a blog now no longer available that detailed unsubstantiated story’s of Vic Mignogna supposedly sexually violating dozens of underage female fans. Funimation Eventually fired Vic Mignogna from their employ. But it didn’t end their, he was also fired from Roosterteeth from his roll on their project RWBY. A second hashtag appeared not long after called #istandwithvic which was a platform for Vic fans to show support for Vic Mignogna after the accusations which would appear to be false surfaced. From January 19th 2019 to the present, these two opposed hashtags battled over social media with #kickvic trying, and ultimately succeeding to get Vic Mignogna fired, and doxxed, based on weak allegations. Where as #istandwithvic With occasional use threats of violence but largely demanding evidence which surely could have been provided if the accusations had been true. The evidence presented by #kickvic has been very disappointing. They have presented to this date, third party unconfirmed story’s, photo shopped pictures, and tumblr blogs of people complaining about uncorroborated behavior. On June 11th a random member of #kickvic sent incriminating emails pretending to be Vic Mignogna’s lawyer Ty Beard. This count’s as Impersonating an officer of the court which is a federal offense.
On June 16th #kickvic started a propaganda campaign to convince people that Vic was a predator and a huge jerk. The photo memes read as the following.
“WELCOME TO ANIME MATSURI WE SUPPORT SEXUAL HARASSMENT TO FANS AND WE DON’T CARE UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO US”
“WHEN A LOLYER, A PREDATOR AND A GRIFTER GET TOGETHER AT ANIME MATSURI”
“ANIME MATSURI IS OVER ANOTHER YEAR OF “IT’S FOR THE FANS” USED TO EXCUSE SUPPORTING SEXUAL ASSAULT”
“WE DID IT! WE SAVED MY REPUTATION ALL IT TOOK WAS A LOLYER AND A GRIFTER”
“NOTHING LIKE SHOWING YOUR PRIDE FOR ANIME AT ANIME MATSURI 2019 BY SUPPORTING A VOICE ACTOR WHO SEXUALLY ASSAULTS HIS FANS/COWORKERS AND DISRESPECTS EVERYONE ELSE”
“YOU SUPPORT SEXUAL ASSAULT, HARASSMENT, DEATH THREATS AND BULLYING IN THE ANIME COMMUNITY BY ATTENDING ANIME MATSURI AND POSING WITH VIC”
Nothing LIKE SUPPORTING ANIME LIKE BRINGING IN A LOLYER AND A GRIFTER THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ANIME”
This clear propaganda continually portrays Vic Mignogna as a sexual predator, his lawyer Ty Beard as a fake lawyer or a joke, and Nick Rekeita, a legal expert on youtube.com as a swindler. #kickvic regularly pretends to be victims of sexual harassment and assault by Vic while ridiculing real victims of assault for standing up for a man who is most likely innocent.
A tweet between emmy and Amanda Winn Lee nicely characterizes Vic’s accusers. Emmy(#istandwithvic):Unless those “countless” women can actually prove anything happened. The accusations are baseless. Amanda Winn Lee(#kickvic):You poor stupid girl. I hope when it happens to you (and it will if it hasn’t already) that you find the kindness and compassion that you lack towards the victims now. These people with #kickvic support the idea of guilty until proven innocent when it comes to social media accusations. They characterize a demand for evidence condemning and ruining a man and his career over some story’s as apologizing for rapist’s, as though #istandwithvic supported sexual assault. The following exchange displays this. Professional Contrarian(#kickvick):I mean, sure you’re correct if by opinion you mean fact and by that I mean you’re woefully wrong. I realize Vic makes so many of y’all tingly down there but if only he kept to good touch instead of bad touch you wouldn’t need to insult women to get off.
Princess Jupiter(#istandwithvic)Don’t tell me the difference between a good touch and a bad touch. Fore one I was molested as a child by three teenage boys. I’ve put that behind me for years. I’ve also been sexually harassed by a girl on the bus. I’m discussed by people like you who only do this for attention.
Professional Contrarian(#kickvic)Great. Vic grabbed me and several others I knew. Or maybe you’re just crying for attention. I bet you wanted it from those teen boys. How’s it feel to get it thrown back you insufferable disgrace of a human.
This shows how #kickvic people treat victims who support Vic Mignogna and characterize the demand for evidence as though it were some sort of crime. Due to her behavior it is unlikely that Professional Contrarian is any sort of real victim.
On june 8th 2019 #kickvic showed an image that supposedly showed him as having been an assistant teacher at a high school organizing a play, and had sexually abused some student’s but a close examination of the photos shows Vic’s leg dis-appearing through part of a chair and his skin tone seems off, and his face appeared as though he was the same age he is now, and his outline looks rough and out of place, and Many on the #istandwithvic side were able to clearly debunk it. On top of that one phone call to the school was all it took to disprove the whole thing.
On June 16th I found a tweet that was one in a series of nasty tweets calling Vic Mignogna a “piece of shit”, the tweet is as follows. Inst1nkt (#istandwithvic):This pic says a million words. I love this @vicmignogna @NickRekieta finally meeting and you can tell how happy Vic is. #animematsuri #istandwithvic
veebs@PhishInCharlotte(#kickvic):
Yea it does. Vic is a piece of shit... oh wait, that’s only 6 words
The following is a record of tweets from #kickvic people which should make it clear just how many like to call Vic Mignogna a Piece of shit.
JASKETCH! If there have been multiple accusations spanning across 15+ years and even official VAs coming out about their experiences with him, you officially have no excuse for defending Vic Mignogna at this point. It’s clear that he’s a piece of shit who needs to get kicked #KickVic
Brittany Bogart I'm really glad I learned about what a piece of shit Vic Mignogna actually is about 8 years ago so the whole #KickVic thing is a relief and not devastating. I was a hardcore Risembool Ranger back in middle school but I dropped Vic like a rock when I started hearing the stories.
#Istandwithvic has not been totally innocent in the name calling…….
L-R Dear everyone that backs #KickVic You are a piece of shit if you really want this man to suffer without any evidence to back up all of the allegations made against him. Until some evidence is shown I and many others that have a heart will be standing with Vic #StandWithVic
MAE RIN So the person who started the #KickVic is complete piece of shit human being. I hope they get punished because they pretty much ruined him. I will stand and say that I #standwithvic
Several Funimation and RoosterTeeth voice actors have conducted themselves in an unprofessional manner and have also made unsubstantiated story’s of their own. Even Vic’s former Fiancee has come forward.
But the word of a possibly bitter ex, and once trusted colleague’s seems dubious considering the following.
According to official court documents shared on the youtube channel yellowflash 2, the tactic used by the Funimation in the court hearing has been to deny any and all request’s to see evidence. A general and complete denial of all interrogatory’s from Vic and his lawyer Ty Beard. One would think if they had evidence, than why not present it?. Funimation has also blocked their official investigation from going public. It seems that the evidence does not exist, and this is merely an attempt by some bitter and possibly jealous coworkers to hurt a colleague for simply not liking him. Funimation voice actors say that Vic is guilty of inappropriate touching, yet there is photo after photo after photo, of them touching, hugging, and greeting fan’s no less intimately than Vic Mignogna has done himself. This is a high form of Hypocrisy. The Funimation voice actors bullied several anime conventions. They said if Vic Mignogna was going, they were not. Apperently Christopher R. Sabat, a major Funimation staffer, Harassed the owner of kamahecon, a Dragonball only convention, via text messages, demanding to deny Vic and invite, and prevent him from being there. In the end Vic Mignogna did make it to Kamahecon, but bullying and harassment are the least of unprofessional behavior's by supposed professional’s.
Voice Actor Sean Schemmel, has reportedly been incredibly rude to fans, acting as though having to interact with them was a bothersome chore. Though evidence of this is lacking. This however is far from Sean Schemmel’s worst behaviour. He released a video, mocking Vic Mignogna, Calling himself Vic Mangina, and making a voice that sounded like Vic, and saying “I am good at doing 12 year old boys, I like doing it, I like doing 12 year old boys”. Sean Schemmel was suggesting that Vic Mignogna was a pedophile.
Monica Rial, another Funimation voice actor, has apparently claimed several times, that Vic Mignogna had sexually assaulted and harassed fans and fellow voice actors, right in front of dozens of witnesses, yet no security footage or photo’s of this exist, in spite of the fact that these anime conventions usually have at least one or more security camera or similar device on the premises. There was an incident at one convention where Vic asked if he could share a jelly bean with Monica’s name on it. He ate the jelly bean and rather cutely, funnily, and, childlike, said that he ate Monica. This was then treated by Rial and her fan’s as sexual harassment. This shows that Rial and her fan’s either have very low standards or simply do not understand the meaning of the term.
Funimation dubbing artist Jamie Marchi, has been a vocal accuser of Vic Mignogna. When Vic ultimately sued Funimation for defamation after #kickvic members sent a full article of accusations to Funimation resulting in Vic’s firing. Jamie Marchie was in served court papers, saying she was to appear in court. She repeatedly dodged being served. Jamie Marchie sent several tweet’s of a jocular, and even ridiculous nature, mocking officer’s of the court trying to serve her, her papers. The tweet’s are as follows.
“Who’s this Canadian coffee drinker? Autographs today at 5 pm, will be accepting most papers at that time”
“New Book!! (The woman in the window) Something about the cover just spoke to me HEADING TO AUTOGRAPHS NOW!!!”
Jamie Marchie had also changed her twitter handle to running from the law while avoiding being served her papers.
The papers where eventually attached to her front door and placed in a bag to protect the papers from the weather.
Funimation staffers have not behaved in a professional manner. Their behavior has been childish, antagonistic, vitriolic, and wrong.
But what of Vic Mignogna’s behavior in this battle of twitter hashtag’s?
It has come to my attention that there have been threats made toward others by fans in support of me. LET ME BE PERFECTLY CLEAR that I would NEVER condone anything approaching this whatsoever, and I call upon anyone doing it to STOP THIS IMMEDIATELY.
There is way too much hate in the world today. Please spread love and understanding instead. Hate met with hate never, ever solves or improves anything. Be kind to one another always.
Please remember... there are always two sides to every story.
Vic’s behavior has been that during this twitter fight has been that of a true gentleman. As opposed to the very unprofessional behavior displayed by #kickvic and funimation. One might say that Vic could just be covering the truth by good behavior, and that Funimation are just jerks, and while that may be true, consider the fact that Vic said that there are two sides to every story. He is not demanding that you believe him as a guilty person would. He is simply asking that you consider his side of the story which is brutal and tragic as violent disrespectful internet trolls in #kickvic try to get him removed from gofundme, his job, and his career which is now mostly ruined by their feeding of false allegations to everywhere they can.
#kickvic has now turned its attention to Funimation. On june 29th #kickvic member Keylyn saucedo A.K.A marzgurl has directed her attention toward Funimation in the following tweet.
So, I’m actually wondering now… like, we’re celebrating Funimation dunking on Vic’s team at the moment. But when all the information comes out, how long until we all turn on funimation and say, “wait, this was all going on, and you let it continue for 15 years?”
#kickvic Has officially turned on Funimation. They truly believe that Vic is a predator all because of an initial false allegation which in their mind justified the creation of several more. An allegation which followed a refusal to sign gay anime porn.
Overall #kickvic has found themselves in legal trouble over fake emails, impersonating an officer of the court, getting people fired and attacked, harassing, and attempting to disrupt the lives of Vic’s supporters and children of supporters such as That umbrella guy’s daughter who is only about 6 years old. It also stand’s to mention the false evidence, photo shopped images, and general mean spirited behavior.
#istandwithvic has not been totally innocent. Some harassment has happened but still nothing as bad as #kickvic.
I hope this summary makes it clear who the real heroes and villains are in this story, and may help prove a man innocent if he is indeed innocent. Thank you for reading.
