Bat Wings

It's getting closer to Halloween so let's make some wings that will make China salivate. The ingredients are simple to get.

1 Package of whole chicken wings.

The next couple of things are, any hot sauce you like and, black food dye. The only dye I could find that works for dyeing the food is a brand called Wilton. You will have to run to a craft store to find this dye or online.

Now the first thing you do is, mix the hot sauce and food dye into a bowl or a pot. The amount of dye to use is up to you. I used close to half of the bottle when I do bat wings.

Then put the chicken wings in a gallon bag with the mixed dye sauce. Now the trick to getting the wings to dye black, is to have the bag standing upright. If the wings are not submerged in the dye, then they will turn green, killing the illusion of them being bat wings. Toss the wings and sauce around, and let them marinate for 3 hours.

After 3 hours are up, take the wings out of the bag and lay them on a cookie sheet or a cooling rack so some the sauce can drip off, and not on the hot coals or gas burner is you use propane.

You can cook these wings anyway you want to. Grill or smoke. If you grill them, then they will be done in 45 minutes. If you smoke them then do it indirect with some fruit wood. The sweet smoke flavor gets rid of the spicy heat from the hot sauce. Leaving just the flavor of the hot sauce.

Don't worry about the grill temp. Just focus on the chicken's internal temp of 165 degrees.

There it is. The closest thing to a bat wing, that is safe to eat.
