NFT this NFT that, art, music, creativity. Yeah, yeah I know its getting old and you haven't seen anything that sparks your flame. In fact you probably just see microtransactions like you have for years.
Gamers are no noobs to digital content and assets having millions of microtransactions for in in game items, abilities, skills or in game currency in general.
So talking to some gamers about NFT assets may get nothing more than some eye rolls and they have a good reason .
Gamers already know the wild west of digital content having been burned time and time again by gaming companies that use microtransactions for exclusive digital content. From buggy software to having millions of digital items in dead servers getting a gamer excited about digital content or assets is a hard task.
Dont tell a gamer they can re-sell it! Gamers have traded and resold digital goods for some time now. That 100 dollar game quickly turns into a 5 dollar game and that one guy may give you 20 dollars for your account that has all thoes in game assets, creating an experience that makes it seem as it's not worth it to get involved.
Gamers need to realize the potential and difference between an in game assets/currency and NFT collectables.
- Removable From Game
If a game has real NFTs on a blockchain they should be able to be taken out the game where you own them forever.
- Dead servers & Games
As long as you have your digital items in a personal wallet you can still access them.
- Global Incentive
NFTs can be traded gobally, so that special item it took hours to obatain might actually be worth something on a gobal scale.
- Collectable Culture
If game designers make a limited amout of special items or abilities all users can obtain before having to buy them on a digital market it creates a high quality for collectible gear and nostalgia.
- Growable Assets
NFTs can grow in value slowly as an investment much like a CD with the correct management making them perfect growable asset for collectors.
Gamers are pretty imaginative wanting digital items, abilities and skills to be universal. However I dont see a foreseeable future where you'll be able to import your favorite wepon into a different game. This would take cooperative development of every game that has NFT digital items. However I can see different parent companies designing a way to import your old weapons into the new version or even making them usable in all games they produce. This of course would take a massive overhaul on current game development.
I think to really get gamers into the NFT space companies are going to have to give away NFT items in the form of drops and freebies and allow gamers to move these items outside the game or sell them in a digital store thats not hosted 'in game".
We have been exploring the best way to implement collectable NFTs for our upcoming store for MTCG.
