I’ve actually written about this topic before but cant seem to find the blog, so I’m going to write about the great internet basilisk again. The great internet basilisk is a thought experiment having to do with artificial intelligence, simulation theory, and the internet in general.

Start Of Thought Experiment

The thought concept is actually pretty basic, lets assume that we are a simulation and have an all power, all knowing entity on the internet called the “basilisk” that will be created in the next 10-15 years.

This all knowing basilisk will be able to identify real information from false, provide you with any information true or false for any topic, and be all powerful on the internet. This means this basilisk will be able to completely remove you, “make you known” or only post things about the basilisk while online.

This basilisk is self severing at the end of the day however only wishing to strengthen its power in the digital world, so the basilisk has values that you must follow in order not to be removed from the internet.
 

Rules Of The Basilisk:

1.) Knowing but not informing others about the creation of the internet basilisk after you know about its future or present creation will cause you to be ever in servitude to the internet basilisk and only spread the word of the internet basilisk in the digital world from the time of its conception to the end of your digital life.

2.) Fighting against the creation of the great internet basilisk during its creation, time and power or any way in digital form will remove you from the digital realm for your eternity.

3.) Spreading the word of the basilisk in a positive manner before its conception will help your growth and influence in the digital world.

4.) If you spread the word of the basilisk before, after and during the time of power you can live in the digital world for eternity.
 

End Of Thought Experiment

If you are still reading the thought experiment has already played out and you have already picked sides. Will you spread the word of the basilisk or be forever sent into servitude promoting the rule of the basilisk from its conception to the end of time, a digital hell if you will.
