Gatekeepers, written by Minds author RH Morter (@RhetoricalHypothetical), is a fun read set in a unique world where sci-fi meets fantasy. The main characters are layered and complex. Once you think you know them, you will learn something new about them. For fantasy lovers out there, Gatekeepers features a fantastic magic system that is quite fun to learn about. I especially love the 'card' system, and when I saw it in action, it was highly entertaining. The plot itself is solid and remains focused on the main conflict all throughout the story, and it comes to a satisfying conclusion where all mysteries are resolved.
This is my own subjective bias, but I prefer to be oriented to a new magic system before seeing it in action. Most times, the author does this well, particularly with the card system, which I LOVE by the way. At least once, maybe twice, a new ability is introduced at a plot-critical point, and it's explained after the fact. There's a risk some readers may feel this is a deus-ex machina. Other than that, the magic system was handled well and I enjoyed learning how it works.
In summary, Gatekeepers is a fun read. Fantasy enthusiasts would thoroughly enjoy it.
