Here are some of the first steps I have taken to lessen Google's influence on my day to day life. If you are an advanced tech user focused on privacy this may be old news, I still think you may gain some value from this simple guide.
I only use 2 devices normally: Phone - Motorola G5 Plus
Not Jail-broken
Laptop - Asus G75VW
OS - Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
First step: This is the simplest part to start with, the most important, and the very hardest to implement consistently. Never use the word "Google" as a replacement for the word search in the language you use. I don't appreciate the way the Google's search algorithm has been influenced to give me suggested results to subconsciously introduce ideas, later to be reinforced with further conditioning by curated news suggestions.
Step Two: Would be Browser's this one is hard most modern browser's are based off of Chromium. There are some good projects out there that have done well to strip away the bad features and have built up some very solid alternatives. Currently I use Brave browser my second backup is Mozilla Firefox They have some strange practice's in the last few years but as just a redundancy its acceptable. As I was put this together I remember a fork of Brave browser was used to create a Free Speech Browser . Double check that the default search is not set to google
Third Step: Now its time to focus on the phone, Most always keep it with them. Its the snitch in your pocket. I think its important to find times when I don't want to have any Telescreen with me. Alternatives to the playstore are still new, A promising one is F-droid . This is where I will pull the next few recommended apps from.
Fourth Step: This is one I think people overlook regularly is Google likely offers you the keyboard you type with on the phone.
This link will take you to Simple Keyboard through F-droid. No features just a keyboard and symbols you need.
Step Five: This will be my last step at this time. My phone default used Googles Gallery service. I found one that I preferred on F-droid, Simple Gallery, along with a Meme creator for the Meme-lords out there.
