Turmeric will make you more attractive.
You will develop the ability of flight, to see in the dark, read minds, move impossibly sized objects with relative ease and of course, move freely between dimensions!!
Okay...Perhaps not.
But the health benefits of Turmeric in the #diet - specifically it's most active ingredient, Curcumin, has been all over my (and most likely your) newsfeed for quite some time now. I'll link to one near the end of this post, in case you haven't.
But my gut instinct is that many of these viral health posts are originally circulated by the spice industry (or whichever sales department wants to tap into the #health sector, pushing the next 'Astounding herb-X or spice-X').
And so rather than rushing out to buy and load myself full of Turmeric goodness, thus filling their greasy pockets in the process; might it not be better to make my own turmeric powder from fresh roots?
I mean, they're there.
I bought 3 packs of roots because I heard they was healthy
And hey, what else is there to do on this particular idle #Saturday afternoon except take 8 hours to create a small jar of colorful, fragrant powder that you can simply pop out to the supermarket for in 20 minutes, right?.
I'd been procrastinating way too long.
I became an expert at it, but finally I was so bored I did it ;)
I'll warn you, the process is very very messy due to the strong coloring.
I had some turmeric in a juice and it turned my fingers yellow for over 4 days. Lesson learned: Keep my fingers outta my juice. ;)
And even wearing rubber gloves on this little mission, my fingers are a little yellow the day after the messy stuff. Photos below, you'll see what I mean.
The roots i had to hand were all quite small, no larger than your pinky but largely smaller, so the annoyingly pernickety process of peeling them took it's toll. The joints of my thumbs are throbbing from peeling them.
But hey, that's one of the health benefits of turmeric so it all works out in the end, right?
So, the process and some photos below...
1. Wash and peel the #turmeric
2. Chop into small pieces. Messy, messy, messy.
The gloves are optional but well advised ;)
3. Slowly dehydrate the turmeric pieces, by spreading them out over an oven tray and warming on the lowest setting, for 4-5 hours (or longer, depending on the size of the pieces). Move them around from time to time to stop an uneven dehydration.
4. After being dehydrated and cooled, grind the pieces up in a #coffee grinder - preferably somebody else's coffee grinder.
...and see the magical color change before your eyes.
Voila!
Your finished product. Isn't it vibrant!! :)
For the next step I'll be filling capsules with 1 gram of turmeric and pepper (which helps with the absorption of the Curcumin into the system) and taking them daily.
I fully expect to have yellow fingers for the coming week.
Wish me luck! ;)
NOTE:
I published this on another board and some #Indian friends advise that the best delivery method is heating the Turmeric/Kurkuma powder in some oil and then adding to some warm milk to bypass the stomach and go straight to the gut.
Let me know what you think on that one.
Sounds legit to me
:)
